Having just returned from the most breathtaking holiday in Bali I could not wait to feature Jonti and Nicholas’ beautiful paradise wedding! The scenery was breathtaking as was she.
- Date: 3 September 2016
- Location: Canggu, Bali
- Venue: Villa The Sanctuary
- Number of guests: 60
Roxy: Why did you decide on the venue you chose?
Jonti: After visiting Bali to look at venues, we shortlisted 3 villas that were each incredible in their own way. We ended up deciding on Villa The Sanctuary as; it was completely private and secluded, it could accommodate our entire bridal party (25 people including parents) and really had wow-factor. The villa is spread out over 20 000 square meters of lush gardens and truly feels like a tropical paradise. We decided to book it as, apart from being an incredible venue for the actual wedding, we could really picture our friends and family hanging out around the infinity pool and lush gardens for the 5 days we would all be staying there together.
Roxy: What look and feel were you going for with your decor and overall mood of the wedding?
Jonti: We went for a romantic theme with lots of natural colours and textures. We really wanted the overall feel of the day to be relaxed but still well put together.
Roxy: What flowers did you use?
Jonti: We used a mix of greeneries, David Austin roses, chrysanthemum, spray roses, aster and snapdragon.
Roxy: Are there any other special decor elements you used/created?
Jonti: We had overhead structures made for the tables to hang naked bulbs and greeneries from. We also used pyrotechnics for our grand entrance and danced our first dance in front of a sparkling pyrotechnic wall.
Roxy: Tell us about picking out your dress? What did you wear and what inspired it?
Jonti: I always knew that I would want something fitted and backless with an overall elegant look. I tried on a few variations of this until I found the one. The dress I tried on was just a sample so the designer custom made one for me with a few changes I requested.
Roxy: How did you get ideas for your wedding? Did you have a coordinator or was Pinterest your best friend?
Jonti: Pinterest has been my best friend since I was 12. I did have a wedding planner though as we were getting married overseas and it would have been impossible to coordinate everything without one. I drew inspiration from the location, Pinterest, our planner and came up with a few ideas myself.
Roxy: Tell us about your bridesmaids/groomsmen outfits?
Jonti: Our bridal party outfits were fairly casual. Three of my bridesmaids wore printed maxi dresses from Forever New and we had the other 2 made to pick up the peach colour in the print. They wore flat nude sandals from ASOS. The guys wore cut off pants and white shirts from Zara and loafers from Top Man.
Roxy: How did you pick your photographer and/or videographer? Was there a particular style you were looking for?
Jonti: Photography and videography were 2 of the most important aspects of the day for us. Our photographer and videographer travelled from South Africa and we chose them both as we loved their candid, natural style of shooting and the romantic and classic feel of their work. They had also worked together before and were happy to travel to Bali together.
Roxy: Tell us about the menu.
Jonti: We had a 3 course Asian set menu with canapes during cocktail hour and a late night traditional Balinese BBQ satay cart. The food was all fresh and light and worked well with the outdoor setting and extremely hot weather.
Roxy: What did you do for a wedding cake?
Jonti: The cake was probably the thing we were least concerned about and didn’t even end up serving it as everyone was too busy having a good time. We chose a simple white 2 tier cake topped with orchards.
Roxy: Is there a particular moment that stands out from the day?
Jonti: Walking down the aisle. I had pictured it so many times before and I was completely overwhelmed by the joy and contentment I felt when it was actually happening.
Roxy: How did you feel when you saw your husband for the first time walking down the aisle?
Jonti: So incredibly happy. I approached the ceremony area from about 30 meters away and had to cross a huge open space until I finally reached the aisle. From the second I came around the corner and could see the ceremony area my eyes were fixed on him and I did not notice anyone else. He looked so handsome and I was so ecstatically happy.
