The Brutal Fruit Pink Drive Netball Challenge

I’ve loved playing Netball all my life, throughout my school career and then as an adult for social purposes and fitness. It’s such a fantastic game! Which is why I love taking part in the Brutal Fruit Pink Drive Netball Challenge each year.

This is my second year playing for the Pink Drive who are a breast cancer Non-Profit Company (NPC), powering South Africa’s mobile Women’s Health Mammography and Gynaecology Units. Pink Drive’s underlying message is ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’.

All PinkDrive units travel to semi-urban and urban areas around South Africa with the aim of enabling all medically uninsured access to women’s health services. These services include free education on women’s health, free mammograms, free pap smears, free clinical examinations and how to do breast self-examinations.

This year the boys got involved! We played in a mixed team including my colleague on Top Billing, Jonathan Boynton-Lee, Wordsmith and rapper, Reason; RnB artist DotCom and Big Brother favourite and rapper, K2.

The ladies most definitely brought the glam in the form of television presenters K-Naomi and Dineo Moeketsi as well as actress Khanya Mkhangisa.

Here comes my super-hero-lets-get-brutal face:

I must commend Brutal Fruit for getting behind such a fantastic cause and for continuing to support SA Netball the way that they do. They have elevated the NPL to such great heights and now our female athletes are starting to gain the recognition they deserve!

Unfortunately us Mango-Goji’s did not win against our very worthy competitors but at the end of the day it was all in the name of fun and awareness for the Pink Drive. Here are some action shots!

You can find out more about the Pink Drive here and follow Brutal Fruit on Twitter there.

Until next year… Let’s get brutal!
