Postpartum Hair Loss: What Can I Do?

Having a baby is a miraculous event. It’s an incredible time that is special to say the least but let’s also be honest here… it can be tough! On the one hand it’s the most incredible time of your life. And on the other it can also be a challenging one with the struggles of breastfeeding, the sleep deprivation, and on top of it all, the raging hormones. Your body goes through the MOST during 10 months of pregnancy and even though it is an incredible thing to behold it can also take it’s toll.

I mean, your amazing, incredible body produced a whole tiny human being! Give yourself a pat on the back mama!

Once baby arrives and things start to settle you may have noticed the word “shedding” on the tip of your tongue. Shedding weight? That one doesn’t necessarily happen as easily. Shedding hair?? Now THAT one happened thick and fast for me!

Luckily my hairdresser had warned me about postpartum hair loss as she herself had struggled with this. I found that when I managed to get my 2.5 minute showers in those first few months after birth my hair would come out in CLUMPS! It was quite a shock. I don’t have the thickest hair to begin with so images of a bald spot started to flicker through my mind.

After much research I discovered Vigro and reached out to them about their brand.

Most women don’t realise that after pregnancy there is an increase in hair shedding, and to the new mom it may seem as though they will go bald in no time, says Nomfundo Majozi, brand manager for Nativa brand Vigro. Not to worry, this is perfectly natural, and is known as postpartum hair loss.

Phwef! Ok, it’s normal. But that still doesn’t help the fact that I’m losing hair by the clump! What can you do?!

Everyone sheds around 100 hairs a day to make way for newer, stronger hair to grow; however, when pregnant the changes in hormone levels can cause less hair to fall out giving the expectant moms hair a fuller and healthier look. So it wasn’t your imagination! Pregnancy glow is a real thing!

This new look starts to change around 3 months after giving birth; the hair that would have naturally fallen out during the pregnancy period, starts to shed – everywhere.

So if you need some help, and a hair makeover after giving birth, the active ingredients in Vigro can help reduce non-genetic hair thinning, and can give some relief . These active ingredients can assist the scalp with hair loss by cleaning and opening the hair shaft preparing the scalp for penetration of the actives, as well as assisting hair follicles to reduce hair thinning through the active ingredient Follicusan. The Vigro 3-Step System also provides a combination of vitamins and minerals needed for healthy hair growth.

I found the products easy to use (3 simple steps as mentioned) and the fact that the Bio-Shampoo is PH neutral is an added benefit for me – easy on your body! The Bio-Tonic leave in treatment is luxe and I genuinely felt like it was nourishing my hair while in! I also tried the Intensive Bio-Tonic for added strength and revitalisation. It’s also an “excuse” for some me-time. Self-love goes a long way mamas!

After 3 months of using this product my hair is definitely fuller and back to what it was before baby!
