There is always talk of having the “staples” – a LBD, a great pair of jeans and of late, a biker jacket. But the question then turns to how to put them together. You really don’t need a massive wardrobe (even though we all want one!) you just need to know how to put it all together. Make-up and styling also go a long way in converting a look from day to night or smart to casual.
I chose 6 staple items from TALLY WEiJL and experimented with different looks for different occasions. Here’s what I came up with when faced with a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, a tunic shirt, bodysuit, skirt and jacket. I hope this inspires you to look at your wardrobe differently!
Look 1: Spring Daze
Here I paired a cute lace and tie bodysuit with a pair of TALLY WEiJL’s newest denim shorts (which I’m obsessed with) and glammed it up ever so slightly with a gold strappy sandal and hoop earrings. Casual cool with a bit of a girly sense to it.
Look 2: Spring Nights
The exact same look can go from day to night by simply adding a heel, like this wooden platform, and popping on this amazing TALLY WEiJL waterfall laser-cut faux leather jacket. Disclaimer: I’m obsessed with this jacket, got it for myself in black too!
Look 3: Boyish Charm
I love a brogue. I won’t tell you how many pairs I have as I may embarrass myself. The reason I love them so much is that it’s a flat that still manages to look dressed up and smartens a look ever so slightly.
Another trick in smartening up a look is buttoning up the collar and wearing a statement necklace like a bib. I love doing this as it is a simple way to convert any shirt. I would wear this sort of look to a brunch or a baby shower – smarter but still casual.
Look 4: Festival-Esque
Look closely, the only difference between these two looks are the shoes! All I did here was unbutton the shirt about halfway and tie it in the middle. Paired with my favourite boots it instantly feels like I’m headed to a music festival! Amp it up by stacking tons of bracelet and voila, you’ve got yourself a festival look worthy of Coachella.
Look 5: Easy Breazy
Easy like a Sunday morning. Same shirt, unbuttoned, with statement jeans and sliders leaves you feeling like the weekend has arrived! Casual cool to the max.
Look 6: Work It Gurl
Layering is still one of the best ways to use your wardrobe creatively. All I’ve done here is added a jacket, put on a caged heel and pretended to be “corporate” with spectacles! 😉
Look 7: Sports Luxe Deluxe
Throwback to the bodysuit you saw earlier paired with these fab TALLY WEiJL low-rise, skinny denims. Mix it up with a pair of sneakers and you get a completely new look and feel.
My makeup-artist, Morag Steyn, and I decided to make the look a little edgier and pair it with these dark Tom Ford aviators and one of my favourite Smashbox colours, “Mocha”. Lipstick is a really easy way to change up a look – it’s my go-to beauty product when I need to quickly go from day to night.
Look 8: Too Cool For School
I love me some converse and jeans! All I did here, from the previous sneaker look, is change up the shoes and layer the tunic shirt over the bodysuit. Same same but different! Oh and don’t forget the tres chic gold plated TALLY WEiJL belt.
Look 9: Flower Power
I transported back to the 70s and went full hippie with this gorgeous lace skirt from TALLY WEiJL. Paired with a pair of silver platform brogues (mixing in some 90s here) and using a floral TALLY headband I channeled my inner flower child!
Look 10: To The Max
Here I decided to layer it up and use the tunic shirt over the maxi skirt to create movement. Paired with a chunkier heel, which offsets the lightness of the look, I’ve created a fun juxtaposition that can go from work to after work drinks and beyond.
Look 11: Beach Bar Vibing
Take me to Mykonos! Here I’ve combined the bodysuit and the tunic shirt and created a little beach dress. Paired with a glam gold sandal and TALLY bag I’m ready to go sip cocktails on the beach and listen to some house music…
Look 12: Date Night
Time to head out on the town. It’s simply: take the tunic shirt and made it into a dress! I do know that this is height dependant and in this instance shortness is in my favour but if you’re too tall then simply wear an elegant pair of flats instead of heels. To zhoosh the look up and make it date night worthy I buttoned up the collar and added a stunning TALLY gold bib necklace.
I hope you enjoyed this style story as much as I enjoyed creating it! Please tag me in any outfits you may have created inspired by this post. Thank you to Society PR for allowing us to use your stunning offices!
