New Years Eve: Fashion, Hair & Make-up Ideas

When the clock strikes 12 on the 31st of December I plan on looking fabulous! I love putting in a little extra effort over New Years Eve and starting my year with a little bit of glamour (even when the dress code of the event I’m attending doesn’t require it!)

So myself, my stylist Sarah Ann Mitchell and make-up artist Morag Steyn, in collaboration with Pantene decided to put together 3 different NYE looks for you for a little inspiration!

The Girly Girl

Sequins, sequins, sequins! Who doesn’t love a little sparkle? This I Am Woman plunge neck dress is perfect to ring in 2017. Paired with my favourite pair of Jimmy Choo’s I decided to keep my heels demure because the dress is such a statement piece all on its own.

Girls love curls! And they’re the easiest way to spruce up a look that may feel a little informal. A trick to creating the perfect movement in your hair is to alternate the direction of your curl as well as the amount of hair you curl each time. So take one strand clockwise and the next anti-clockwise. Continue with this throughout the hair to create a bouncy, full look! Make some pieces thicker than others to further add dimension.

A slightly modern twist on this look is to add a deep side part. Be warned though, you do need a serious amount of hairspray to keep this look in place! Just don’t go near any candles…

We paired this rose gold ensemble with a coral lippy from Smashbox to add a little pop of colour and compliment the orange tones in the dress.

The Retro Throwback

This I Am Woman tasseled romper from Parooz Fashions screams retro 70s glam which is exactly why we loved it so much! Paired with silver block heels this is the kind of look that will get you noticed. And that’s the aim, right?

I love wearing purple eyeshadow because my eyes are green. In colour theory purple and green are on opposite sides of the colour wheel and thus compliment one another. If you’d like to read more about colour theory and what colours would suit your eyes, click here.

To juxtapose the look and not go too far back into the 70s, Morag added a french braid to modernise the hairstyle. Braids are a great way to zhoosh up a look and keep it sleek at the same time.

The Modern Muse

The third and final look we went for is a little “moodier” than the previous two and is great if you’re looking for something chic, comfy and modern. A wide legged trouser can be dressed both up and down and is an incredibly versatile item to have in your wardrobe.

I find that wearing high-waisted trousers makes me look a little taller and when you’re 5’2′” this is always a great thing! We decided on an up-style in conjunction with a simple black choker to elongate the neckline and add little something.

This hairstyle is so easy to do! Curl your hair and simply pin it up. The great thing about it is that if it gets a little messy it’s not an issue as you can just let the curls loose thereafter.
