Awards season has begun! Which means its time for us to pour over some haute couture fashion on the red carpet. Here come my best dressed at this year’s 2017 Golden Globe Awards.
Ruth Negga, nominated for her role in “Loving”, STUNNED in this sequinned Louis Vuitton gown which reportedly took 120 hours to create. And I can see why! She looks exquisite. I’m excited to see what this Ethiopian-Irish actress will be bringing on and off-screen as she’s tipped to be this year’s up-and-coming style slayer with her experimental views on fashion. Not only does she grace the cover of American Vogue this month shot by Mario Testino but she’s most definitely also a best-dressed nominee from last night’s carpet.
Daughter of musician Phil Collins, actress Lily Collins dazzled in Zuhair Murad. What really takes this beautiful gown to the next level is the styling: offsetting the nude and dusty pink of the gown with her dark hair and blood red lip is perfection. It modernises the look which could have easily been a bit dowdy.
Busy Phillips looked amazing in a black Stella McCartney with plunging neckline. In a sea of sequins her gown stood out with it’s beautifully embroidered yellow, white and green detail.
Thandie Newton, cast member in the Globe-nominated HBO series Westworld, wore Monse; the critically acclaimed newbie label is the brainchild of Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who recently took over the helm as co-Creative Director’s at Oscar de la Renta. And you can see why when you look at the glamazon that is Thandie in this white column gown.
I’m not usually a fan of yellow but man Emily Ratajkowski rocked it in Reem Acra. The detail on this gown is sublime but then again, what can’t Emily wear?!
Snaps for Evan Rachel Wood who told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that she decided not to wear a dress to show young girls that dresses “aren’t a requirement” and that “you don’t have to wear one if you don’t want to, and to just be yourself because your worth is more than that. So this year I said I’m going as an homage to Marlene Dietrich and Victor Victoria, and David Bowie because it’s his birthday.” She cleaned up in this Altuzarra ensemble.
Perfect colour? Check. Perfect neckline? Check. Angela Bassett looked sublime in this modern yet playful number from Christian Siriano.
She will always be my favourite Gossip Girl and this is why. Blake Lively wore a black velvet Versace and looked like perfection. Plus it had pockets. A dress with pockets wins every time.
Mrs Timberlake walked the red carpet alongside her husband in a gorgeous gown by Elie Saab. Well done Jessica Biel, the styling was perfect and you managed to balance a plunging neckline and a high slit – impressive stuff
Nominated actress Riley Keough looked phenomenal in this 20s-esque art deco Chanel number. This could possibly be my favourite look from the evening with her effortless hair and make-up including a simple red lip.
The peplum made a comeback last night in the form of Chrissy Teigen’s Marchesa gown. My bestie (I think I’ve mentioned on my blog about 100 times that she follows me on Twitter) looked regal in this gown and the red pop of colour in the form of her clutch bag was the perfect way to cut through the bronze lace.
The Bardot neckline was big last night and Drew Barrymore’s version of it was masterful in the form of this number from Monique Lhuillier.
At first glance this Jenny Packham gown looked like a skirt and jacket but either way Kristen Bell smashed it. Her hair styling was particularly well paired giving movement to a very structured look.
Dolce & Gabbana is that you? No, its Olivia Culpo in Zuhair Murad. Bold, bright and beautiful! And completely different from anything else on the Globes carpet last night which is always winning for me. I do think Olivia’s makeup was a little heavy for the look but we can forgive her…
Louis Vuitton really brought their A-game last night and Sophie Turner of Game of Thrones fame came along for the ride. This gown is everything you want for a red-carpet: modern, sleek and unique. The smokey eye was the perfect cherry on top of an already delicious look.
I’ve included Anna Kendrick’s Vionnet gown in this list because of it’s stand out colour and unique neckline. Well done Miss Kendrick!
Mia Farrow eat your heart out! Kristen Wiig’s new pixie cut was the perfect accessory for this etherial Reem Acra lace gown. This funny lady took this red carpet very seriously and it definitely paid off!
