There is always talk of having the “staples” – a LBD, a great pair of jeans and of late, a biker jacket. But the question then turns to how to put them together. You really don’t need a massive wardrobe (even though we all want one!) you just need to know how to put it all together. Make-up and styling also go a long way in converting a look from day to night or smart to casual.
I chose 6 staple items from TALLY WEiJL and experimented with different looks for different occasions. Here’s what I came up with when faced with a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, a tunic shirt, bodysuit, skirt and jacket. I hope this inspires you to look at your wardrobe differently!

Look 4: Festival-Esque
Look closely, the only difference between these two looks are the shoes! All I did here was unbutton the shirt about halfway and tie it in the middle. Paired with my favourite boots it instantly feels like I’m headed to a music festival! Amp it up by stacking tons of bracelet and voila, you’ve got yourself a festival look worthy of Coachella.
A Little Trick
Another trick in smartening up a look is buttoning up the collar and wearing a statement necklace like a bib. I love doing this as it is a simple way to convert any shirt. I would wear this sort of look to a brunch or a baby shower – smarter but still casual.

My makeup-artist, Morag Steyn, and I decided to make the look a little edgier and pair it with these dark Tom Ford aviators and one of my favourite Smashbox colours, “Mocha”. Lipstick is a really easy way to change up a look – it’s my go-to beauty product when I need to quickly go from day to night.
Look 9: Flower Power
I transported back to the 70s and went full hippie with this gorgeous lace skirt from TALLY WEiJL. Paired with a pair of silver platform brogues (mixing in some 90s here) and using a floral TALLY headband I channeled my inner flower child!
Look 12: Date Night
Time to head out on the town. It’s simply: take the tunic shirt and made it into a dress! I do know that this is height dependant and in this instance shortness is in my favour but if you’re too tall then simply wear an elegant pair of flats instead of heels. To zhoosh the look up and make it date night worthy I buttoned up the collar and added a stunning TALLY gold bib necklace.
I hope you enjoyed this style story as much as I enjoyed creating it! Please tag me in any outfits you may have created inspired by this post. Thank you to Society PR for allowing us to use your stunning offices!
