Anna-Belle Mulder is as unique as they come. She runs an amazing website called “She Said” which features her love of Johannesburg, design, fashion, travel and food. It’s befitting that her engagement was as one-of-a-kind as she is.
Roxy: Soooooo… the number question everyone asks, how did he do it?
Anna-Belle: We were on a little holiday over Christmas in Knysna, on the last day of our holiday, which also happened to be Christmas day we went on a late afternoon drive. After driving around for an hour or so Craig pulled over into a little clearing in the most beautiful forest on the side of the road and asked if we could take one last photo. We took the photo and he asked for another, I remember pretty clearly asking him why he was suddenly so interested in photos, as I’m usually the one shoving a camera in his face. Nevertheless I set up the self-timer to take another picture and next thing I knew he was on his knee asking me to marry him. I don’t think I have ever been so surprised in my life, and now we will always have a picture of the exact moment we officially decided to spend the rest of our lives together.
Roxy: Were you expecting it?
Anna-Belle: No ways, I thought he was joking at first, I always know when someone is going to surprise me, mostly because I’m so nosey, it really was the biggest surprise ever!
Roxy: Had you spoken about marriage before that?
Anna-Belle: When Craig and I started dating we knew from day one we were going to get married, as strange as that sounds we both had had our hearts broken enough time and weren’t really interested in putting effort into something that wasn’t forever, that and we were madly in love with each other.
Roxy: Did you hint at the ring you wanted or did he pick it all by himself?
Anna-Belle: He picked it all by himself! I’m not one to wear jewellery so if I were to wear a typical diamond ring it just wouldn’t suit me. He hit the nail on the head, it’s so simple, beautiful and understated. My Craigy did good!
Roxy: How did you feel when he asked you to marry him?
Anna-Belle: I cried a tear or two and then to be honest a felt like I wanted to throw up for about an hour afterwards because I was so excited. Craig just laughed at me and hugged me till I started feeling better. It really was one of the best days of my life.
Roxy: When are you planning on saying “I do?”
Anna-Belle: We’re getting married on September 5th which is really really soon. I can’t wait. We will be getting married in the Constitution Hill Museum, they’ve never had a wedding there before so it’s going to be really special.
