Metallics; all that glitters IS most definitely gold. Or blue. Or silver. Or pink!
Whether in clothing or in makeup this lustrous look is a constant in fashion. With trends constantly ebbing and flowing it was no surprise that metallics showed their gleaming return once again. And with lips always at the forefront of trending, its no surprise that unusual textures and finishes have also become more prevalent on the runways. At the Spring/Summer 2017 shows, the stand-out looks were brighter and bolder than ever with an abundance of glitter from Fendi to DKNY.
Gold glitter lips at Fendi and red and gold metallic lips at DKNY (SS17). Both created by legendary make up artist Pat McGrath.
It was therefore only a matter of time before make up powerhouses such as Smashbox cottoned on to these trends and supplied the every-day-woman (yay for us!) with the option to add some extra glitz to their lives. And so the Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal lip range was born.
Not only is the colour selection really diverse and bold but the added benefits of this new range make it a no brainer for your next purchase:
- Metallic and vinyl-like finishes
- Delivers one-coat rich, saturated colour
- Foolproof precision tip applicator distributes product evenly
- Formulated without; Parabens,Sodium Lauryl Sulfate,Phthalates, Silicone, Oil & Talc
Myself and make-up artist Sarah Mitchell put together a little video displaying two make up looks.
In the first look Sarah shows us how to do a quick and easy summer-ready, bronzed “Day Look” using “Haterade.” She then transformed this day face into an evening look using “Crimson Chrome.”
With the release of the new Smashbox Be Legendary Liquid Metal lip range the time for stepping out of your comfort zone is upon us! Having said that, I do think a few helpful hints might make that bold choice of a metallic lip a little easier. I’ve put together a few hints on how to wear your chosen Liquid Metal Lip colour:
PAIRING ONE: Put your “Petal to the Metal” and be pretty in pink
Petal Metal is a good place to start if you’re apprehensive. This metallic rose gold has hues of soft pinks running through it and will be easier to wear. Celebrity make up artist Daniel Martin says that we should think of pink as the ‘new neutral,’ and of course the “beauty of a neutral is you can pull it off on any part of your face.” I’d pair this colour with lots of soft pink blush, neutral eyes and tons of mascara.
PAIRING TWO: Don’t be a “Foiled Brat” be a purple disco machine
I do love me some purple and this metallic burgundy shade is just the right amount for me. This look is definitely a winner for the ladies with green eyes. I suggest sticking to a very neutral eye, possibly with mushroom and soft brown undertones and then pair it with a burgundy/purple mascara. If coloured mascara is too much for you another tip is to buy a darker shade that shows its true hue only when it catches the light.
PAIRING THREE: “Iced Out”…. nah, more like NIGHT OUT!
For those ready for the leap outside that box or even if you just love a bold look on a night out, this blue shade of metallic goodness will be sure to turn heads. I love the idea of pairing it with a really bold black liner. Whether you can pull off a liquid liner or a pencil smudge liner, either will work. I wouldn’t put any colour on the eye as the lip is more than enough to set to the scene.
I think all the above are easy enough for most woman to pull off. The vibrancy of the colours allow us ladies a little bit of runway glam too. Having said that, Sarah and I did however take the opportunity to have some fun with the daring and glistening colours inspired by Smashbox’s Lip-Editor-in-Chief, Vlada Haggerty!
