So you find out you’re having a baby! And straight after receiving the amazing news about the soon to be arrival of a new human being, the quick reality sets in that there is all of a sudden so much to do! Having said that, I’ll be honest and say the nursery did not stress me out at all. There are certainly no set rules when putting together a baby’s nursery, I did however find that focusing on two fundamentals made my life much easier when putting together Adrienne’s room.
As I’ve also mentioned in previous posts, like Ady’s newborn shoot, I love to support local. So whenever I can I make purchases from local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
With the help of an amazing local soft furnishers company, Urban Grace Interiors, I found the most incredible locally sourced fabric and Urban Grace custom made these blinds to fit Ady’s room.
My main piece of advice here would be to pick something that has longevity. Us as parents have to live with this room in our home for years to come and on top of that be aware of how quickly kids can grow out of one-dimensional themes. I decided on a very neutral colour palette of whites and greenery. I still wanted it to have a feminine touch to it and so I brought in the floral aspect too.
The main feature in Ady’s room is a bespoke piece of wall art by local designer Barbara Goatcher of Flutter. We brainstormed and she put together this amazing piece of monochrome, gold and 3D art. She also did the large ‘A’ adorned with flowers.
Anything that can offer additional functionality in my life is great. More bang for you buck as they say! Although the initial cost of this cot may be more, it’s great in that it converts into a bed and adds so much more mileage than your standard crib. This crib/bed can last up until 10 years of age.
A side note about the rug: these Lorena Canals rugs are completely machine washable and the most incredible rugs! If you have children or pets they are absolutely perfect. We’ve washed Ady’s rug a few times and they come out brilliantly.
I loved this book shelf when I saw it as its the perfect height for a toddler to gain access to the books themselves. Available from Simply Child.
For me, once you lock down a theme and a good crib everything else just falls into place, well it did for me anyways. Here’s hoping Adrienne loves her room the older she gets just as much as I loved putting it together.
Hope you enjoyed seeing our nursery! x
